Are you someone who is eager to drive innovation with data and analytics? Interested in playing a pivotal role in advancing Aftonbladet, Omni, and Svenska Dagbladet? And joining us to support our dedication to independent and strong fact-based journalism?

Our data and analytics team focuses on more than just building pipelines - it's about linking people with data to empower stakeholders through tools, products, insights, and advice for data-driven decisions. We are committed to educating, evangelizing, and supporting our business end-to-end.

This role entails ensuring our data architecture meets business needs, recommending ways to improve data quality and reliability. With our placement in the news media industry, this often means supporting near-real time needs. Additionally, it is important to be savvy in monitoring and optimizing the costs of processing data, as well as assessing and addressing potential security vulnerabilities. You report directly to the Head of Analytics & Insights.

Since spring 2023, Aftonbladet's data and analytics team is part of the organization Subscription Sweden, a larger family of Schibsted's News Media brands - Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet, Omni, Wellobe and Podme. Collaborating across, we foster collective growth. Your team therefore consists of colleagues with data and analysis skills from various brands, some of whom, like you, devote most of their work to Aftonbladet. Our stakeholders are from all parts of the organization; i.e. the Product teams, Editorial, Subscription Business, Advertising and Commerical departments.

The team manages the collection, structuring, enrichment, and analysis of all available data - with Aftonbladet alone producing 400 million events and over 20 billion data points daily. We utilize a modern cloud-based data warehouse (Snowflake/AWS), along with tools such as dbt, Airflow, Docker, Tableau and Amplitude.

You strive to master the arts of:

-
Building large-scale ELT pipelines; designing and ensuing data flows across Schibsted News Media; leveraging AWS, Snowflake, dbt and many other state of the art data and analytics technologies.

-
Proactively surveying the technical architecture, tooling and solution landscape seeking opportunities to optimize time to data, data quality and model agility.

-
Documenting, monitoring and consistently improving our data flows by working together with the central data platform teams.

-
Ensuring data privacy regulations are solidly and efficiently adhered to in all our data engineering work.

-
Collaborating and communicating – we operate as a unified team.

You have:

-
A Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Informatics.

-
At least 4 years' experience in big data or data engineering, with proficiency in data pipeline construction and transformation.

-
An appreciation for experimentation and the autonomy to develop unique solutions.

-
Strong business acumen with the ability to toggle between detailed technical and high-level conceptual perspectives.

-
Teamwork skills and belief in the mantra: "To go fast, go alone; to go far, go together".

-
A curious nature, with a drive to learn, acknowledge mistakes, and grow from them.

-
Fluency in English and , along with a programming language like Python, Java, or Scala.

-
A basic understanding of Swedish - in the end, all our articles are written in Swedish and so is most of the metadata.

Hello from a fellow team member!

Hi, I'm Emil, and I'll be working with you on the team. The best thing for me personally, is the team. I'm surrounded by amazing and highly competent colleagues who are always supportive and go above and beyond. There's nothing we can't discuss, and there's a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere in the team. Johanna, our manager, has clear goals of where the team is heading, and I feel at ease with her spearheading the team. She's an excellent partner for brainstorming and knows the ins and outs of analytics.

You will be a part of an amazing team and be at the core of understanding a consumer subscription service - always with the continuous aspiration to increase reading! The position is based in Stockholm and you report to our COO.
Who are you…
We believe that you are currently working in a similar role at a fast-moving company. Want to get a feel for the Blocket, or Schibsted vibe? Check us out on Instagram (Blocket, Schibsted) & LinkedIn (Blocket, Schibsted)!

The position

You will be part of the very diverse and highly specialised fraud team whose mission is to build the tools that underpin fraud prevention in all the largest marketplaces in the Nordics. We offer an inclusive and stimulating work environment where your contribution truly makes a difference! Interesting challenges will exist at every level, providing you with the opportunity to grow and develop in your role.

We are at an exciting point in transitioning to Nordic Market Places and as a developer, you'll have significant influence over the direction of our projects. We have many exciting tech tracks within the team and you will have an opportunity to deepen and hone your skills in any one of them. Including ML/AI, bleeding edge frontend, and distributed microservice architecture.

Responsibilities may include:

-
Craft the beating heart of our marketplaces' fraud-prevention tools—an event-driven platform.

-
Take the lead or join forces in advancing our cutting-edge ML tech stack.

-
Architect systems that scale effortlessly and adapt like a chameleon.

-
Elevate software quality with top-tier industry practices.

-
Fuel our teams with your innovative ideas to turbocharge our pace.

The Tech

Our tech stack is based on a highly distributed micro-service architecture with many decoupled services which enables our teams to make autonomous decisions about their tech choices. In the fraud team, the majority of our services are written in Java or Kotlin, but in the Nordic Market Places, we deploy services in Go, Python, C# and even a few in Haskel!.

To ensure seamless deployment and scalability, we leverage the capabilities of Google Cloud and AWS, deploying our services through Docker and Kubernetes. To facilitate efficient communication between services, we employ Kafka as an asynchronous messaging system.

Who you are

We believe you are a developer with some knowledge and understanding of ML and other emerging AI tech. You are able to independently lead the development of new features and enjoy discussing and debating code and solutions with your peers. You like sharing your knowledge and above all, you are curious and continuously strive to learn new things.

Your skills

-
Hands-on experience in Kotlin or Java backend development and an understanding of the Spring-Boot framework.

-
Experience developing distributed systems in a micro-service architecture.

-
A keen interest in Machine learning techniques and other emerging AI technologies.

-
Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka or Google Pub/Sub.

-
A collaborative attitude, team player, friendly, with passion and flexibility to learn new tools and skill sets.

Hi, I am your new manager!

My name is Alexander, and I've had the pleasure of working at Blocket in various positions for the past 5 years. From being a front-end developer to a full-stack developer and a Tech Lead, I recently transitioned into management. As a manager, I strive to embody the ideal from a developer's point of view. I strongly believe that trust, autonomy, and transparency are the keys to creating a happy and efficient developer. I am passionate about technology and love participating in the technical discussion but my ambition is to empower developers to make any and all architectural and technical decisions themselves.

I'm really excited about this new team because it will be pioneering tech that will support the whole organisation in the future. It will be a true challenge to design and build the systems that carries this responsibility and when done right, they will make an impact for many years to come!
