Job Description

Hyper Island is now introducing more inhouse-roles for industry experts.
For our new program XR creative developer we’re now looking for a trainer Blender (https://www.blender.org/about/).

Who are we looking for?

You are good at 3D modelling in Blender and curious about exploring the world of extended reality (XR) together with our students.

You also have a good understanding of the overall aspects of the XR development pipeline from start to delivery well as basic knowledge of one of the game engines Unreal engine or Unity.
You have a genuine interest in teaching but you are NOT an instructor. Instead you want to develop creative tasks for students to solve and facilitate their learning along the way: by curating and providing content, by providing feedback, coaching and advice.

Responsibilities & Tasks

- You will hold regular classes in Blender.
- You will plan the content of these classes in collaboration with the responsible Hyper Island program manager.
- Other programs like Motion Creative or Motion Designer might be included in your tasks.
- You will support the students by reviewing their tasks in smaller groups and give feedback on group- and individual level.



Experience and competence

- Basic: relevant experience working with Blender. A big plus but not a requirement: experience as an XR generalist, you are real maker and have the relevant skills in C# and Unity.
- Interest and openness to learn the Hyper Island way of learning based on experienced based learning (contructionism, learning by making).


Formal requirements
- Relevant experience working with 3D modelling in Blender.

- You are a fluent, native or near native English speaker.

- Previous experience as an educator is a plus.



Terms

- You collaborate closely with the responsible Program manager of the XR program.
- You will report to PM team lead Veronica Thunborg.
- Start: From August or September 2022.
- Location: Stockholm
- Part time employment 30% of a full time employment (12 hours per week) or freelancing as a consultant accordingly. Student contact time: 6 hours plus planning and preparation: 6 hours= 12 hours totally.

- Gathering information about projects, creating briefs, mood-boards and syncing with the teams about themes and concepts.

Do you want to be part of creating a multiplayer digital playground for kids to hang out in and play together?

You’ll be part of a growing game team in delivering our most ambitious project yet - Toca Days - a friendly multiplayer world for children where they can feel safe, creative and be able to express themselves.

As the first UI Artist on this project you’ll be the one to create the majority of the UI assets - from placeholder to final art, from menus and buttons to in-game assets.

What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for creating all UI visuals in the game. This means:

Developing the visual identity of said UI, in collaboration with the Art Director and UX Designer. Ensuring the look is consistent and inline with the visual identity of Toca Boca as a whole.

Creating game-ready UI assets and implementing them in-engine with the support of the rest of the team.

Developing documentation and style guides for the project as the game grows, ensuring it remains in line with the overall project vision.

Iterating on the visuals to make sure they are accessible and understood by all our players.


Is this you?
You are an experienced UI Artist who’s comfortable designing for touch screen devices (be it from working with games or other mobile apps).

You’re used to working with Illustrator and vector graphics and UI art tools in general. You might have an interest in UI animation and/or 2D illustration.

You have a strong appreciation of UX design and an ability to see beyond the wireframes, turning them into magic. You understand how color, shape and placements have an effect on gameplay and player behavior.

What we’ll be looking for in your portfolio
We are looking for a strong UI art portfolio showing finished projects you’ve worked on as part of a team. We’d like to see you explain your thoughts and share your explorations, so we can understand your process. We would like to see examples of vector icons and playful graphical UI details.

As a UI Programmer, you will work closely with the Design, Art and Programming teams to contribute to the functionality and features of the user interface, and to maintain a consistency between the UI mockups and the game. You are willing to push the boundaries of UI implementation, and the ability to consider issues from numerous angles and take efficient actions.

Particularly for this role, it is critical that you see your responsibility as working with your team-mates to deliver a successful end-user experience, and not just creating a technological solution to pass on to content creators. Previous experience working with multiple systems and stakeholders is a definite advantage. Finally, as with any other developer role, you will have to be able to balance functional and aesthetic requirements with technical requirements in the areas of performance, stability, memory usage, and interoperability.

The Position

Avalanche Studios Group and its division Systemic Reaction are looking for an Associate Producer to join our live team on Generation Zero, an open-world first person shooter. Systemic Reaction is the division dedicated to ambitious, internally published, AA open-world games.

In short, as a Producer you will coordinate resources, internal and external, to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects. You will together with the Lead Producer develop schedules that translate business goals into action and act as a change agent for process improvements. You will monitor team progress and maintain the schedule to provide the Lead Producer and Executive Producer with regular updates on status and risks as required.

The person in this role will be responsible for the following:

- Collaborating with Directors and Leads to establish long term feature schedules, milestone definitions, and phase/sprint goals
- Being a part of the team - working with the teams to overcome complex problems, identify dependencies, develop schedules, improve product quality and stay on track
- Supporting the team by running daily stand-ups, scheduling meetings, taking notes, and otherwise keeping the team stay organized and on track
- Tracking live issues affecting end users and ensure they are being followed up on and resolved
- Understanding and communicating project milestones, task deadlines, and stakeholder feedback to team members across the studio
- Anticipating, identifying, and proposing solutions for project risks and issues
- Utilizing the chosen project management software to provide metrics and visibility

The ideal candidate will have a mix of the qualifications below:

How you will make an impact

While our UX research team will focus on horizon-1 opportunities with multidisciplinary product development stakeholders; your role as Strategic Research Lead is to focus on Horizon 2 strategic questions with the main stakeholders being the executive leadership team. THE ROLE

In this role you will be working in a cross-functional team with the responsibility of adding a dimension of awesomeness to our product experience. Your involvement in product development will stretch all the way from the discovery phase to the product roll-out. You will be expected to actively contribute to our understanding of our customers and to turn that insight into a kick-ass customer experience.

The UX/Product Designer is part of the Design function, but operates in a dedicated cross-functional product team with it’s own clear objectives and metrics. It will be your task to represent our customers' needs and desires in the product team, and to contribute to the collective wisdom and best practice knowledge of the Design function.

Avalanche Studios Group are looking for a User Research Coordinator to drive the research initiatives for Avalanche Studios Group’s self publishing divisions Systemic Reaction (SR) and Expansive Worlds (EW). Avalanche Studios is the division dedicated to ambitious, externally published, AAA open world games like Just Cause, Mad Max, and Rage 2 - our upcoming title Contraband is a co-op smuggler’s paradise set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan.

Contraband is a brand new IP published by Xbox Game Studios, and we are looking for a lead programmer with physics and driving gameplay experience to take a key role in our Vehicle team at the Stockholm or New York office.

The Position

Avalanche Studios Group is now seeking a talented, decisive lead programmer to guide a growing, high performing team creating fun and engaging driving experiences on Contraband.

Work in close collaboration with design, animation and production to deliver high quality, physics-driven vehicular gameplay. Ensure that all vehicles in a complex living world have the desired handling characteristics, pathfinding, and behavior. Support the creation of robust multiplayer systems and replication. Vet proposed designs for technical feasibility and development cost. Advocate for the opportunities, risks, and needs of the programmer discipline within the larger team. The role will require highly developed leadership and mentoring ability to compliment the prerequisite technical skills required of a senior. You will also join the Avalanche engineers in developing and maintaining our proprietary Apex Engine.

It is expected that you see your responsibility as delivering a successful end-user experience, together with your team-mates, rather than just handing off technological solutions to content creators. Understanding that game development is a long, iterative process, you will be the constant champion of your junior colleagues, advocating for their needs and helping them grow their skills. Previous experience in a technical leadership role and proven ability to work with multiple systems and stakeholders is a definite advantage. Finally, as the sanity checker on all technical matters, you will have to be able to balance feature richness with technical requirements in the areas of performance, stability, memory usage, and interoperability.

Required Qualifications

- An advanced understanding of what makes games fun
- Experience working as a Senior or Principal Programmer in the games industry, and desire to lead and mentor teams of programmers
- Experience with multiple gameplay systems and how they connect to create a finished feature (animation, character control, camera, physics, AI, audio, VFX, etc)
- Able to write readable, robust and performant code in C++, and review the work of others

- Expertise in physics and vehicle gameplay mechanics

- Experience with open world game
- Experience with multiplayer replication
- Experience working with proprietary engines
- Knowledge of the Havok physics engine
- Good ability at profiling and optimization
