Representation learning is a vital component of large language/sequence models. It implicitly captures hidden structures of input sequences and exhibits great performance when predicting the next token. Mobile networks can actively benefit from this capability thus ushering a new era of transmitters and receivers powered by AI thus reducing communication costs. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with solid course track record and passion for research to conduct industrial PhD studies within the area of representation learning in semantic communication networks through a combined framework of self-supervised learning techniques with formal strategies from the Age of Information to introduce interpretability but also scalability and performance to this new communication paradigm.

What you will do:

- Join the Cognitive Automation team in Research Area AI in Stockholm working as an industrial PhD student. The job consists of 80% of PhD studies and 20% duties at Ericsson as a researcher.
- Be enrolled as a PhD student at Linköping University, under the supervision of Professor Nikolaos Pappas (https://liu.se/en/employee/nikpa02) and Professor Zheng Chen (https://liu.se/en/employee/zhech93). Expected starting date is latest June 2025
- Collaborate and interact with a diverse team of world-class researchers with different backgrounds and experiences to develop solutions and concepts for 5G+ and 6G network evolution with focus on AI.
- Disseminate results in top AI and telecom conferences.
- Engage with external ecosystem (academia, technology leaders, open source, etc.) to develop skills and enhance technology portfolio.
- Stay updated with the latest trends in research and technology, contributing with scientific publications, patents, and technology innovation.

The skills you bring:


- University master’s degree in AI, computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering or similar area with strong graduation grades and be eligible to enroll in a PhD program.

The Standardization unit within Standards and Technology is responsible for BNEW standardization strategies and execution to make sure Ericsson is the continued leader in all standardization related to radio access networks. 

The telecommunications industry is experiencing a transformative shift towards open and disaggregated network architectures, with Open RAN at the forefront of this evolution. At Ericsson, we are dedicated to defining and advancing Open RAN architecture as we move toward 6G, focusing on multivendor collaboration and standardization aspects. You will:
– Perform system level simulations to evaluate different customer deployment scenarios for AAS (Active/Advanced Antenna Systems) and PAS (Passive Radio Systems) radio products and provide strategy input improvement to product line organization.
– Support 3GPP and regulatory spectrum standardization of new frequency bands for the mobile industry with systems level-, network level- as well as link level simulations whenever needed.
– Propose and implement simulation models of the radio product and perform evaluation of the proposed solution.
– Based on available customer data and whenever needed propose and perform data-driven simulation studies and predevelopments within the early phase projects in Radio.

To be successful in the role you have:
– MSc or PhD degree in Wireless Communications, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, or similar technical field.
– Excellent English Skills both verbally and in writing.
– Programming skills (Matlab/python3.x, C++ (optional)), 2 years coding experience is preferred.

Our team in Ericsson is responsible for a Yocto-based distribution used internally in our company. We are now looking for senior Linux software engineers with recognized credibility across the Linux ecosystem, experience working with Yocto, and in particular a strong background working in kernel ecosystem. In this role, you will work both in the team delivering a high-quality distribution inside Ericsson and as a public contributor to projects important to Ericsson, such as the kernel. Most of the current team is located in Sweden, but what you offer is more important than where you are located, so it can be also Ireland, Finland or the United States.

Areas where our team works and your skills would be valuable include:
- Driving strategic activities on Ericsson's behalf in upstream open-source communities including, but not necessarily limited, to the Linux kernel & Yocto communities
- Implement and maintain Linux kernel extensions, such as Ericsson-written kernel modules, upstreamable enhancements, out-of-tree patches, etc.
